The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 17 grad Bubba McDaniel, victorious in his Octagon debut last April, is getting a chance to prove it wasn't a fluke when he tangles with Brad Tavares at the second UFC on FOX Sports 1 event on Aug. 28, 2013 from the Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The promotion announced the booking on Tuesday night, clarifying earlier reports that had Bubba paired off against Magnus Cedenblad.
McDaniel (21-6) was anointed by TUF 17 coach Jon Jones as the next big thing on the FX channel reality series, based on their experiences at Greg Jackson's gym in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Unfortunately, "The Menace" was unable to realize his potential and suffered key losses to season finalists Kelvin Gastelum and Uriah Hall.
Submitting Gilbert Smith at TUF 17 Finale kept him in the game.
How long he stays there could depend on his performance against Tavares (10-1). The Hawaiian knows a thing or two about TUF, having cut his teeth on season 11 before graduating in June 2010. His record since then is a crisp 5-1, with his only defeat coming by way of decision to Aaron Simpson at UFC 132 the following year.
One of these TUF guys is going home sad.
UFC on FOX Sports 1 (part deux) will feature a welterweight rematch between top division contenders Carlos Condit vs. Martin Kampmann. The pair first met at UFC Fight Night 18 back in 2009, a headlining bout that served as "The Natural Born Killer's" Octagon debut.
"The Hitman" was victorious by way of split decision.
