Two fresh faces will make their respective Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) debuts later this summer when Nandor Guelmino takes on Derrick Lewis at the second UFC on FOX Sports 1 event, scheduled for Aug. 27, 2013, from Indianapolis, Indiana.
MMA Junkie first reported news of the heavyweight match up on Friday (June 21, 2013); however, UFC officials have yet to confirm.
Guelmino (11-4-1) may be a name familiar to North American mixed martial arts (MMA) fans for his one and only appearance under the Strikeforce banner where Josh Barnett quickly submitted him in the first round.
"The Hun," who is 37 years of age, wasn't expected to be brought over to the Octagon when Strikeforce closed its doors; however, it appears now he will get his chance to shine on the big stage.
Lewis (9-2, 1 NC) has spent his entire career competing on the regional circuit and likely caught the UFC's attention with his current six-fight unbeaten streak that includes five (technical) knockout victories.
"The Black Beast" has never been finished in his 12-fight career and has stopped his opponent inside the distance in all of his professional victories.
It is unknown at this time where Guelmino vs. Lewis will be placed on the card.
UFC on FOX Sports 1 #2 goes down Aug. 28, 2013 from the Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana. A welterweight rematch between Carlos Condit and Martin Kampmann serves as the main event of the evening while lightweights Donald Cerrone and Rafael dos Anjos meet up in the co-headliner.
