The second UFC on FOX Sports 1 event, scheduled for Aug. 28, 2013 in Indianapolis, Ind., has a headlining bout, and it will be a rematch between two of the world's top welterweight contenders.
Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) interim 170-pound champion Carlos Condit will get back in the cage against Martin Kampmann in what will be a rematch from Condit's UFC debut in April 2009, a bout in which Kampmann was awarded a split decision victory.
Over four years later and a trip down two very different roads, the paths of these two men have intertwined again after both losing their last fights to top welterweight contender Johny Hendricks.
A.J. Perez of FOX Sports announced the rematch on Friday (May 31, 2013). UFC officials later confirmed the report via Twitter.
Condit (28-7) has not won a fight since defeated Nick Diaz for the interim title in Feb. 2012 and is currently on his first two-fight losing streak since 2006 after back-to-back losses at the hands of Georges St. Pierre and Hendricks.
"The Natural Born Killer" gave Hendricks all he could handle at UFC 158 last March, but was edged out by decision in the "Fight of the Night."
Currently ranked as the No. 2 contender in the division, Condit is not far from reestablishing himself as a title contender, but before avenging his losses to St. Pierre or Hendricks he must focus on getting back at "The Hitman."
Kampmann (20-6) did not do quite as well as Condit when he fought Hendricks at UFC 154, suffering a brutal knockout loss just 46 seconds into the first round. The defeat snapped a three-fight win-streak for the 31-year-old and sent him plummeting down the welterweight pecking order.
The Danish fighter has never endured a rematch in his UFC career and with Condit's name recognition being much greater than it was in their first meeting, another victory over the Jackson's MMA trained fighter would be the most significant of Kampmann's career.
UFC on FOX Sports 1 2 goes down Aug. 28, 2013 from the Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Condit vs. Kampmann II is the lone match up announced for the card at this time.
