Report: Constantinos Philippou injured, pulled from 'Jacare' Souza fight at UFC on FX 8 in Brazil

There goes the co-main event...

USA TODAY Sports

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight slugger Constantinos Philippou suffered a cut above his eye and has been forced to withdraw from his bout against Ronaldo Souza at the upcoming UFC on FX 8 event, which is scheduled to take place at Arena Jaragua in Santa Catarina, Brazil, on May 18, 2013.

MMA Fighting was the bearer of bad news earlier today.

"Costas" is 5-1 since his Octagon debut back in 2011 and coming off a technical knockout win over Tim Boetsch as part of the UFC 155 pay-per-view (PPV) event last December. This was expected to be the fight that put him in top contention.

Or send him to the back of the line.

No replacement has been named at this time and with just two weeks until fight night, it's going to be tough to find an opponent for "Jacare," who like Philippou, is currently in the "mix" for 185 pounds of gold.

Maybe Ilir Latifi -- who knows a thing or two about fighters getting sliced open -- can make the "cut" to 185?

UFC on FX 8 features a hard-hitting headliner between Vitor Belfort and former Strikeforce Middleweight Champion, Luke Rockhold, in the main event. Rafael dos Anjos and Evan Dunham have also agreed to tangle atop the international card.
