Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will return to the TD Garden in Boston, Mass., this summer (Sat., Aug. 17, 2013) with its UFC on FOX Sports 1 event. Unfortunately, mixed martial arts (MMA) fans hoping to see light heavyweight rivals Chael Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva as part of the televised main card, will have to wait.
"The American Gangster" will instead be doing work inside the studio.
In addition, longtime UFC play-by-play man Mike Goldberg won't make an appearance in "Beantown," which means his partner in crime, Joe Rogan, will do his color commentary alongside FUEL TV's Jon Anik.
That's according to New York Post's Marc Raimondi:
Interesting...
Goldberg and Anik have swapped duties in the past (see examples here and here); however, no specific reason for the change was given. In addition, the Sonnen/Silva feud was already beginning to fall apart in recent weeks (see one explanation here).
Save it for pay-per-view (PPV), I suppose.
While no main event is set for UFC on FOX Sports 1 at this time, a monster heavyweight clash between Alistair Overeem vs. Travis Browne was recently made official (details here). Thiago Alves vs. Matt Brown and Michael Johnson vs. Joe Lauzon have also been slated to hook 'em up.
