Newell story, bro.
Former Xtreme Fighting Championships (XFC) lightweight titleholder Nick Newell is joining the cast and crew at World Series of Fighting (WSOF), the upstart mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion headed by kickboxing legend Ray Sefo.
The "Notorious" one shared the news earlier today.
His debut is expected in August or September of this year, according to MMA Fighting.
Newell (9-0) in undefeated in his pro career and even has eight finishes. Not really newsworthy under ordinary circumstances, then again, there is nothing ordinary about the Springfield native, who was born with a birth defect in his left arm.
XFC stripped Newell of his 155-pound title earlier this month after claiming he refused to defend it against Scott Holtzman in Tampa. "Notorious" insists it wasn't about protecting his strap, rather, it boiled down to finding the right path for his budding MMA career.
Now he's found it with WSOF, but where it goes from here, remains to be seen.
