UFC 160 Results: Glover Teixeira is likely one fight away from a 205-pound title shot

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight contender Glover Teixeira has won 19 fights in a row and holds a 21-2 professional record in mixed martial arts (MMA).

His most recent victory came by way of submission over James Te Huna on the UFC 160: "Velasquez vs. Bigfoot 2" pay-per-view (PPV) main card, which took place last night (May 25, 2013) at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

In addition, he holds a win over a former UFC 205-pound champion in Quinton Jackson.

So, how far away is he from a division title shot? Well, that's a good question. The "official" UFC rankings have him sitting pretty at number four, with Dan Henderson, Alexander Gustafsson and Lyoto Machida ahead of him. Henderson, however, still has some unfinished business against Rashad Evans at UFC 161.

Consider "Hendo" temporarily on hold.

"The Mauler" will probably get the first shot against reigning light heavyweight kingpin Jon Jones later this year (after this gets squared away), based on this conversation, as well as the fact that Gustafsson hasn't already been finished by "Bones" like Machida has.

That could put Teixeira at least one fight away from a crack at the crown.

That's assuming he gets another big name in his next fight. Ordinarily, beating a veteran like Jackson would be enough, except "Rampage" had one foot out the door and was already on the wrong end of back-to-back losses. Following up with a submission win over Te Huna keeps his spot in line, but does not advance him.

And Glover is not helping his own cause.

At last night's post-fight press conference (watch it here), the Brazilian assured media members that UFC matchmaker Joe Silva was "doing a good job" and he "didn't care" who he fights next. With the exception of the #Rally4MarkHunt, nobody is going to campaign for you, so you need to plead your case at every opportune moment.

Fortunately, his manager is urging him to go after the winner of Evans vs. Henderson.

The winner of Antonio Rogerio Nogueira vs. Mauricio Rua next month in Winnipeg could also put either "Little Nog" or "Shogun" into the thick of things and perhaps a showdown against Teixeira would be a good way to clearly establish the next division number one contender.

Or, you could book Teixeira vs. Machida for all the marbles.

I'd prefer to see him scrap against Gegard Mousasi, but the "Dreamcatcher" is too busy dreaming of middleweight match-ups. Rounding out the division top 10 are a pair of 205-pound wrestlers in Phil Davis and Ryan Bader. Both "Mr. Wonderful" and "Darth" have rebounded from recent losses, but I think Teixeira has surpassed them on the strength of his win streak.

It hasn't stopped Davis from trying to "pick a fight."
