Carl Froch retained his IBF Super Middleweight boxing title and claimed the WBA Super Middleweight title belt with a hard-fought unanimous decision win over Mikkel Kessler earlier this afternoon (Sat., May 25, 2013) at O2 Arena in London, England. "The Cobra," competing in front of a proud hometown crowd, was out to avenge a loss to "The Viking Warrior" that occurred in the "Super Six" tournament back in 2010. He stormed out to an early lead, piling up points on the judges scorecards and setting the pace for a majority of the 168-pound prize fight. Kessler returned fire, drilling the sturdy Englishman in the latter rounds and wobbling him on at least two occasions. Froch, however, would not be denied, battling back in the later rounds to seal a very important victory, after which he called for a rematch with undefeated Olympic gold medalist (2004), Andre Ward. It would certainly be a great rematch, but a defining trilogy bout with Kessler -- who hinted that he would consider retirement if he lost -- would certainly be welcome after the pair put on such an amazing show.
