Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) officials made their next major trip to Brazil official on Saturday (May 18, 2013), confirming UFC 163: "Aldo vs. Pettis" for Aug. 3, 2013 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
What will be the organization's eighth event in Brazil was all but confirmed prior to the recent announcement, and now the card is set in stone.
A venue has still not been solidified for the event; however, it will likely to go down at the HSBC Arena where the previous three UFC shows in Rio de Janeiro have taken place.
UFC officials made the announcement at the UFC on FX 8: "Belfort vs. Rockhold" post-fight press conference (watch it here) Saturday evening at Arena Jaragua in Santa Catarina, Brazil.
UFC 163 features a featherweight championship main event as Brazilian sensation Jose Aldo puts his belt on the line for the fifth time against former World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) champion Anthony Pettis, who is dropping from the lightweight division to challenge for Aldo's belt.
Also confirmed for the card is welterweight contest between Demian Maia and Josh Koscheck, two fighters in the top-10 of their respective weight class according to the official UFC rankings.
No other match ups have been made official at this time. Tickets for the event are expected to go on sale in the coming weeks.
