On Thursday (May 9, 2013) we found out a date, and now we know the location of the Ultimate Fighting Championship's (UFC) second live mixed martial arts (MMA) event on FOX Sports 1.
After nearly three years away from the city, the Octagon will return to the city of Indianapolis, Ind., on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013 for a UFC on FOX Sports 1 fight card from the Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
UFC officials confirmed the location of the event on Saturday (May 11, 2013).
There are no details about the event at this time other than the date, location and the fact tickets are go on sale June 14, 2013. There are no rumored fights at this time; however, current and former UFC fighters Chris Lytle and Matt Mitrione are from the area and could potentially compete on the card.
The visit to Indianapolis could be viewed as overdue by some as the organization was tentatively scheduled to travel to the city in Sept. 2012 before the event was scrapped and relocated to Minneapolis.
As announced earlier this week, FOX Sports 1 will have a heavy influence of UFC programming and that is evident by the fact the event in Indianapolis is the second in an 11-day span on the channel.
Another live event on FOX Sports 1 is expected to take place the following Wednesday on Sept. 4, 2013 as a lead-in to The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 18 debut; however, no details about that event have been revealed at this time.
MMAmania.com will pass along more news and details about the UFC's return to Indianapolis as they become available.
