Fallon Fox responds to suspended Matt Mitrione's transphobic comments with official statement

Recent winner at UFC on Fuel TV 9, Matt Mitrione, directed strong "transphobic" comments at transgender female fighter Fallon Fox yesterday and was subsequently suspended by the UFC. Today, Fox responded with her own official statement on the controversial matter.

After an unprovoked verbal assault on transgender mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Fallon Fox, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Heavyweight Matt Mitrione has come under fire.

In fact, his transphobic comments "appalled" the UFC, which suspended The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 10 alum pending the outcome of an investigation that "Meathead" violated the promotions official "Code of Conduct."

Today, Fox released an official statement (via, which basically stated that Mitrione crossed the line with his passionate "offensive" outburst.

Fox's response:

"Matt Mitrione went well beyond disagreeing with the medical experts who say I should be able to compete as a woman, and personally attacked me as a fighter, as a woman, and as a human being. His comments do not reflect the spirit of our sport, where most competitors uphold values like respect and dignity."

The comments in question came from an insult-laden interview with Ariel Helwani on "The MMA Hour" -- one that UFC President Dana White can't believe Mitrione even agreed to (more here) fresh off a knockout win at UFC on Fuel TV 9 (watch it here) -- during which he referred to Fox as a "sociopathic, disgusting freak" who is an "embarrassment" to the MMA world.

No real wiggle room for Mitrione spin his bold statement.

He is certainly entitled to his vitriolic opinion, whether it's viewed as hateful or otherwise, but Mitrione will now have to answer for it. And it's unclear if the promotion will look to make a bigger example of Mitrione to send an even stronger message that it will not tolerate similar "offensive" statements and/or unfortunate situations in the future.

Time, and Matt Hughes (more on that here), will tell.
