UFC 159 results recap: Roy Nelson vs Cheick Kongo fight review and analysis

What helped push Roy Nelson's first round knockout streak to three straight with a dominant showing against Cheick Kongo last night? Find out below.

USA TODAY Sports

Two very experienced and capable heavyweights squared off last night (April 27, 2013) as Roy Nelson took on Cheick Kongo on the UFC 159 main card in Newark, New Jersey.

Nelson had won two straight fights via first round knockout and he decided to let the good times continue to roll.

Early on, Nelson surprised many as instead of going for the killshot, he instead drove Kongo into the fence hunting for a takedown and mixing in a few short knees. His offense was largely ineffective and despite double underhooks, he was separated away from Kongo.

After standing in front of the powerful Frenchman for a few seconds, Nelsons decided "screw it" and lunged forward with his patented overhand right, clipping Kongo and dropping him to the canvas with authority.

As Kongo scrambled to keep his wits about him, "Big Country" dropped one last shot on the canvas and faceplanted Kongo, forcing the referee to step in and put a stop to it.

Chalk another ridiculous first round knockout up for Roy Nelson. The man is inhuman.
