Dana White: We like Roy Nelson vs. Daniel Cormier

UFC President Dana White tries not to book fights during or immediately after major events but that may be exactly what he did following UFC 159: "Jones vs. Sonnen" last night in New Jersey. Roy Nelson vs. Daniel Cormier, anyone?

USA TODAY Sports

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White has made it clear on multiple occasions that it's damn near pointless to ask him about future fight bookings for fighters coming out of a major event. There are, however, exceptions to the rule and last night's (Sat., April 27, 2013) UFC 159: "Jones vs. Sonnen" pay-per-view in Newark, New Jersey, is one of them.

When Roy Nelson, who knocked out Cheick Kongo in the very first round of their heavyweight tussle, was asked who he wants to square off with next, he made a remark about watching UFC 160, featuring Cain Velasquez vs. Antonio Silva for the heavyweight title, before White jumped in to say he and promotion matchmaker Joe Silva already had a discussion about it and came up with two options:

"Me and Joe never talk about fights the night of the fight but we talked tonight and we like Roy Nelson vs. Cormier or Roy Nelson, if Mark Hunt wins, Roy and Mark."

Sounds perfect, no?

Even better, Cormier was paying attention when this said and immediately took to Twitter to voice his approval, going so far as to offer the bout to Nelson right then and there:

Nelson has yet to publicly respond but it makes a great deal of sense for both sides. "Big Country" is on a three fight winning streak, all coming by way of first round knockout, while Cormier has yet to lose in his professional mixed martial arts (MMA) career but is coming off a decisive victory over former division champion Frank Mir, his one and only UFC bout to date.

Why not break him in even more with a tough match-up against a dangerous Nelson?

Maniacs, this sound good to you?
