Prior to the UFC 159: "Jones vs. Sonnen" weigh ins on Friday (April 26, 2013), Ultimate Fighting Championship(UFC) middleweight No. 1 contender Chris Weidman hosted a question and answer session with mixed martial arts (MMA) fans at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
Weidman (9-0) is one of the fastest rising stars in the sport as he went from unknown prospect to the man many fans are pegging to be the one to finally dethrone longtime UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva when the two collide for the 185-pound title at UFC 162 on July 6, 2013, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
In the 40-plus minute Q&A, Weidman discusses the shoulder injury that has kept him on the sidelines since July 2012, his hopes to keep Olympic wrestling alive and potentially fighting his good friend and teammate Constantinos Philippou.
The 28-year-old also touched on a number of other subjects from his fight with The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 17 runner-up Uriah Hall, the UFC 159 fight card, volunteering to step in for Dan Henderson against Jon Jones at UFC 151, and of course, his upcoming showdown with "The Spider" slated for mid-summer.
