See, that wasn't so bad.
After getting suspended and fined for his callous comments toward transgender fighter Fallon Fox, heavyweight "Meathead" Matt Mitrione has been granted an early release for good behavior. Hopefully, he's been hitting the gym during his downtime, because he's already been paired off against Brendan Schaub at UFC on FOX 8.
They'll do the deed on July 27, 2013 at the KeyArena in Seattle, Washington.
Mitrione (6-2) kept himself employed with a brutal first-round knockout win over Philip De Fries at the UFC on FUEL TV 9 event earlier this month in Sweden. His lights-out performance over the struggling Brit snapped a two-fight losing streak.
Speaking of which...
Schaub (9-3) also rebounded from consecutive losses by taking a unanimous decision win over Lavar Johnson during the UFC 157 pay-per-view (PPV) show earlier this year in Anaheim. While it wasn't the prettiest of victories, "The Hybrid" did what he had to do to get the "W."
And keep his job.
UFC on FOX 8 will showcase flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson putting his title on the line against top 125-pound contender John Moraga. In welterweight action, Rory MacDonald battles Jake Ellenberger while Robbie Lawler slugs it out against Tarec Saffiedine.
