Following his controversial split decision victory over Gilbert Melendez in the main event of UFC on FOX 7: "Henderson vs. Melendez" last night (April 20, 2013) in San Jose, Calif., reinging Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight champion Benson Henderson made a little bit of history.
"Smooth" was the first fighter in UFC history to propose inside the Octagon, as in his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan the 29-year-old got down on one knee and asked for his girlfriend's hand in marriage in front of thousands of fans sitting in attendance and millions watching the network television event from home.
Luckily for Henderson, his now-fiancé said yes to his proposal and he will soon have a queen to his throne.
While fans seem to be split on whether or not the champion's proposal was corny or romantic, it was a unique moment that certainly won't be forgotten anytime soon.
