UFC on Fox 7 fight card: Daniel Cormier vs Frank Mir fight review and analysis has a complete breakdown and analysis of last night's UFC on Fox 7 co-main event between heavyweights Daniel Cormier and Frank Mir. What helped Cormier comlpletely control the former two-time champion? Find out below.

Two of the top-ranked heavyweights on the planet collided last night (April 20, 2013) as Daniel Cormier took on two-time UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir in the co-main event of UFC on Fox 7 in San Jose, California.

The bout has originally been scheduled to take place on Cormier's turf at a Strikeforce event last November, but an injury to Mir prevented it.

This time, however, it occurred under the UFC's bright lights.

Cormier was unfazed.

Early on, Cormier looked for openings to get inside, shove Mir into the fence, bully him and work him over with dirty boxing and occasional step back combinations, and the opportunities presented themselves very often.

Mir was trying to work his reach advantage, throwing kicks due to the fact that he had no fear whatsoever of being taken down and trying to use a jab, but he was never able to get any boxing going.

Time and time again, Cormier would grab Mir, press him into the fence and throw short right hands to the body and side of the head, occasionally mixing in uppercuts and hooks when there was enough space to work.

Mir tried to fire back with knees up the middle, but it wasn't nearly enough.

In fact, Mir would really screw himself over on multiple occasions by initiating clinches himself directly after scoring on the feet. Every time he did this, Cormier would snicker for a second, grab him around the midsection and easily reverse the position so he was on the inside and Mir was again stuck against the fence.

Cormier repeatedly backed off especially in the third round, probably due to crowd pressure as they reigned boos down on both men, but he was more than effective enough with his clinching and inside strikes to easily take a unanimous decision 30-27 across the board.
