Ben Henderson retains his lightweight championship with a split decision victory over Gilbert Melendez in the headlining attraction of the UFC on Fox 7: "Henderson vs. Meledenz" event that took place tonight (Sat., April 20, 2013) at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California, which just so happen to be Melendez's old Strikeforce stomping grounds. That's why boos were ringing out so heavily after the decision was read that "Bendo" had retained his strap after five hard fought rounds. There's no denying they were all closely contested, as social media sites like Twitter were lit up with such a wide range of scores that no one trusted the three cageside judges to properly do their job. Then again, the end result was going to be debated no matter what it ended up being. In this case, it went "Smooth's" way and Melendez kicks off his UFC career on a down note.
