TUF 17 Finale medical suspensions and injuries: Miesha Tate faces six-month sit, while Gabriel Gonzaga gets just six weeks

Now that the dust has settled and the smoke has cleared, it's time to find out who's worse for the wear following the carnage at The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 17: "Faber vs. Jorgensen" this past weekend in "Sin City."

USA TODAY Sports

The Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) today issued its list of medical suspensions for The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 17: "Faber vs. Jorgensen," which took place on Sat., April 13, 2013, from Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

Considering the damage sustained by a handful of Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fighters on the FX Networks-televised main card, as well as the "Prelims" under card on FUEL TV and Facebook.com, it should come as no surprise to see the extensive list of mixed martial arts (MMA) competitors who were flagged for follow up visits with their doctors.

That includes "Fight of the Night" winner Miesha Tate, who took several crushing Cat Zingano knees to the face before their women's 135-pound No. 1 contender eliminator match was halted in the third and final round (watch highlights here), which didn't sit too well with "Cupcake" at the TUF 17 Finale post-fight press conference (watch video replay here). Indeed, Tate could be riding the pine for up to six months pending a doctor's clearance, as could Collin Hart, who got busted up by Luke Barnatt.

In case you were wondering, Gabriel Gonzaga -- who ate several controversial Travis Browne elbows to the side (and back) of the head -- was issued a relatively standard six-week sit.

Here is the complete list of TUF 17 Finale injuries and their medical instructions:

  • Justin Lawrence -- Suspended until May 14, 2013, and no contact until April 29, 2013.

Just a quick reminder: Fighters often return to action much quicker once doctors give them the green light. The lengthy suspensions are just a precaution in most cases.
