Baszler, Couture and LaRosa among long list of women trying out The Ultimate Fighter season 18

The Ultimate Fighter season 18 held tryouts earlier today (April 15, 2013) and for the first time, women were invited to participate. Check out a list of all the notable veteran and rising prospect female talent who showed up.

It wasn't too long ago that Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White announced the upcoming 18th season of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) would feature both male and female fighters at 135 pounds.

When an opportunity like this arrives, nearly everyone comes out of the woodworks.

Tryouts for TUF season 18 began today (April 15, 2013) in Las Vegas, Nevada, and many of the top ladies in the sport who aren't currently signed by UFC showed up.

Notable names include female MMA pioneers Tara LaRosa and Shayna Baszler as well as former Strikeforce title challenger Roxanne Modaferri.

Even Kim Couture showed up.

But that's not all. Top Invicta FC standout prospects Sarah Moras, Jessamyn Duke, Raquel Pennington and Jocelyn Lybarger all showed up looking for an opportunity to shine.

Even featherweights showed up, as unbeaten and still untested featherweight prospects Peggy Morgan and Sweden's Pannie Kianzad turned out as well as boxer Andre Berto's sister Revelina Berto.

Notable fighters missing from the festivities include Leslie Smith, who dropped a controversial decision to Sarah Kaufman as well as elite kickboxers and boxers Miriam Nakamoto and Holly Holm.

Applicants were tested first with a grappling session to see how their skills held up on the mats. After the first round of cuts, they were next given an opportunity to showcase their striking skills. All the ladies who advance past this portion make it to the round of interviews to see if their personalities and stories would make for compelling television.

Of course, not every female athlete who tried out for the show has been listed, but this is a pretty solid list of all the best available talent. Do you see any early favorites to win?
