Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) deliver its latest mixed martial arts (MMA) network television offering, UFC on FOX 7: "Henderson vs. Melendez," TONIGHT (Sat., April 20, 2013) from HP Pavilion in San Jose, California.

UFC on FOX 7 is headlined by a Lightweight championship contest that pits reigning division kingpin Ben Henderson against former Strikeforce 155-pound titleholder Gilbert Melendez. In the co-main event, former UFC Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir has been tasked with welcoming undefeated Olympian Daniel Cormier into the Octagon.

155 lbs.: UFC Lightweight Champion Ben Henderson vs. Gilbert Melendez

Round one: Melendez has control of the cage center early as Henderson circles. Leg kick from Henderson and Melendez tries to respond with a right hand. Melendez throws an inside leg kick and a right hand. Straight right from Henderson knocks Melendez back a bit. Henderson throws a kick but Melendez steps inside and pops him with a right hand. Melendez follows Henderson to the ground and pops him with a knee as he gets to his feet. Side kick from Henderson and the crowd is chanting for Melendez. Melendez catches a kick and throws a flying knee but Henderson blocks it and spins him into the fence, taking inside position. They battle for position in the clinch and Melendez throws a nice left hook on the break. Heavy chopping leg kicks from Henderson and Melendez responds with a combination, finishing it off with an inside leg kick. Melendez catching another kick and throws a hook but Henderson goes right back to the low kick. Good 1-2 from Melendez at the end of the round. 10-9 Melendez

Round two: Inside leg kick from Melendez and he pops Henderson with a pair of right hands. Henderson tries to close the distance but Melendez lands a short right and backs him off. They trade inside strikes and Melendez again gets the better of the exchanges. Melendez has definitely shown up to fight tonight! Henderson throws a good knee to the body. Henderson throws a jab to the leg and Melendez tries to respond with a right hand but it comes up short. Head kick from Henderson is blocked and Melendez catches the second body kick, throwing some heavy punches in Henderson's direction. Melendez cracks Henderson with a sharp right hand. Henderson goes to the body but Melendez fires back with some punches up high. Henderson's nose is bleeding a bit and both men trade heavy strikes. Huge exchange on the inside and Henderson lands some heavy short elbows. Henderson steps forward but eats a counter right as the horn sounds. 10-9 Melendez

Round three: Melendez lands an inside leg kick and he steps forward with a lead left hand. Henderson lands a huge low kick and sweeps Melendez off his feet. Henderson scores during an exchange on the inside and Melendez backs off. Big right hand from Melendez and he scores again along the fence but Henderson resets in the cage center. Henderson shoots in for a takedown along the fence and he briefly drags Melendez to the ground. Melendez gets to his feet but he eats a knee from Henderson and they trade heavy shots to the body and separate. Henderson steps inside but eats a shot from Melendez and he attempts a takedown but gets shut down. Big body kick from Henderson and he tries to get inside but Melendez pops him. They trade short strikes on the inside while battling for position in the clinch and neither man gains advantage. Nice elbow from Henderson and he connects with a massive leg kick that drops Melendez. He jumps him and drops elbows but time runs out. 10-9 Henderson

Round four: They trade on the inside and clash heads, backing off briefly. Big low kick from Henderson and Melendez fires back with punches. Henderson steps inside and they both land right hands. Melendez steps forward with a big right but Henderson ducks under with a takedown attempt and is shrugged off. Knee from Henderson but Melendez catches it. Heavy left kick from Henderson and he punishes Melendez as he gets up from stuffing a takedown attempt. Left hand from Henderson and then another but Melendez responds. Henderson throws a pair of side kicks to the thigh and tries to step in with an elbow but he comes up short. Huge leg kick sweeps Melendez and Henderson pounces but Melendez scrambles back to his feet. Leg kick from Henderson and he steps in with an elbow but Melendez responds with a hook to the body an da big right hand. They clinch and Henderson throws some heels to the thigh and blasts Melendez with a right hand on the break. 10-9 Henderson

Round five: Switch kick from Henderson and Melendez fails to respond. Big inside leg kick and he steps inside with another left elbow. Melendez throws some big punches but they fail to connect and Henderson has control of the cage center. Front kick up the middle comes up short and Henderson staggers Melendez with an inside leg kick. Another elbow from Henderson on the inside and he connects with the inside leg kick. Melendez is trying to be the aggressor but Henderson shuts him down. Outside leg kick from Henderson and Melendez pops him with a right hand. Melendez steps inside with a knee. Melendez throws a big right hand but doesn't connect. Left elbow from Melendez and Henderson responds with one of his own. Melendez is going after Henderson and they exchange punches. Spinning kick from Henderson misses and time runs out. 10-9 Henderson

Final result: Benson Henderson defeats Gilbert Melendez via split decision (48-47, 47-48, 48-47)

265 lbs.: Frank Mir vs. Daniel Cormier

Round one: Mir backs Cormier up early with some kicks but Cormier takes the cage center and starts backing him up. Big knee to the body from Mir and Cormier clinches, throwing short right hands. Big uppercut from Cormier and a right elbow as Mir responds with a knee. Cormier attempts a knee and a head kick and unloads some shots on the inside as he backs off. Cormier again steps inside and clinches, throwing a knee to the body. Good combination to the body from Cormier and a right knee. Cormier is really doing work here in the clinch. Cormier throws a knee to the body and some big punches whenever he creates some space. I'm really impressed with Cormier's work in the clinch here. They separate and Mir fires off a right hand and Cormier clinches again. Mir already looks tired. Cormier backs off and throws a head kick and slips. Mir tries to wrap his neck up but can't get a good grip. Mir wings a crazy kick but it misses. 10-9 Cormier

Round two: Mir lands a leg kick early and Cormier attempts a jumping head kick but misses. Mir is second guessing everything and Cormier clinches, Good knees from from Cormier on the inside and he pops Mir with some short right hands. Cormier backs off and he steps inside with some heavy right hands, throwing some knees to the body and clinching, pressing Mir's back into the cage. Cormier pops Mir with a short left elbow and backs off. Head kick from Mir misses and Cormier again pushes him into the cage. Cormier backs up briefly and pops Mir with an uppercut and Mir responds with a knee but they clinch again. Good right hands from Cormer on the inside and Mir responds with a left hand. Big 1-2 from Cormier and he crushes Mir with a right hand to the body. The ref separates them and they stare at each other until time expires. 10-9 Cormier

Round three: Mir backs Cormier off with some head kicks. Cormier catches a kick and throws Mir around, eventually going back to the clinch and taking inside position. Big punches on the inside from Cormier and he had Mir stunned but doesn't follow up. Mir throws a pair of leg kicks, the second one connects solidly. Nice kick to the body from Mir and Cormier grabs him, clinching against the fence again. Cormier works short right hands to the head and body on the inside and Mir wings a body kick but Cormier turns it on with some sharp punches to the head and body. Mir needs to make something happen. He throws a good body kick and backs Cormier into the fence and Cormier easily reverses him, taking inside position again. Cormier grabs a leg and Mir flops to his back but Cormer backs off. Right hand from Cormier as Mir gets to his feet and they clinch again. They trade knees on the inside. Cormier backs off and pops Mir briefly but goes right back to clinching and they get separated with 30 seconds left. Mir needs a miracle. Cormier stays on the outside and pops Mir with a left hand. Body kick from Cormier and he lands a side kick to the body as Mir clinches and the horn sounds. 10-9 Cormier

Final result: Daniel Cormier defeats Frank Mir via unanimous decision (30-27 x3)

155 lbs.: Nate Diaz vs. Josh Thomson

Round one: Leg kick whiffs for Thomson and he connects on his second. Diaz stalks from the cage center and Thomson is trying to take his legs out early, winging several towards him. Diaz steps forward with a combination but Thomson circles away. Outside leg kick connects for Thomson and Diaz steps forward with another right hand. Jab lands for Diaz and Thomson blasts him with a head kick but Diaz just keeps coming forward. Straight left from Diaz and he's taunting Thomson, stepping forward and popping him with another jab. Thomson is using movement well here to avoid most of Diaz's attack. Diaz loads up with a big punch and a heavy kick as both men clinch along the fence. Thomson takes inside position and they break. Big right hands from Thomson on the inside but Diaz keeps moving forward. Thomson catches Diaz with some counters as he walks forward. Diaz is chasing Thomson, not cutting him off. Big combination from Thomson and he connects again on Diaz. They clinch and Thomson takes Diaz down. Diaz throws elbows from his back but Thomson fires with big punches from top position. The crowd is enjoying this one. 10-9 Thomson

Round two: Diaz swarms Thomson early with punches and they clinch. Low knee from Diaz forces a break and they reset. Diaz is taunting Thomson from the cage center, but he's also bleeding out of his cheek. They clinch and Thomson has inside position, throwing knees to the body and Diaz uses some dirty boxing in response. Big exchange and both men score. Diaz clinches and takes Thomson down, throwing a nice flurry of punches as Thomson gets to his feet. They clinch again and Thomson lands a pair of elbows on the inside. Diaz's is busted up now. They trade right hands and Thomson throws a low kick before clinching. Good elbow from Thomson on the inside and then a knee to the body before they exit. HUGE head kick from Thomson rocks Diaz! Diaz is hurt bad. Thomson swarms Diaz and just UNLOADS punches. Diaz is trying to survive but Thomson is relentless and the refs puts a stop to it! WOW!

Final result: Josh Thomson defeats Nate Diaz via TKO (head kick and punches) at 3:44 of round two

170 lbs.: Matt Brown vs. Jordan Mein

Round one: Mein steps inside with a beautiful step-in elbow to get things started and he wings a huge right hand. Bwon responds with some power punches and he scores with a big left hook. Borwn goes after Mein with some wild strikes and Mein is having troubl ecreating space. Uppercut connects for Brown but Mein responds wtih a right hand. Huge combination from Mein and he pops Brown with a left hand. Big knee to the body from Brown and they take a short break to get a mouthpiece back in. Left hand from Mein and Brown steps inside with a head kick but it's blocked, although he follows up with a left hook. Both men are tagging each other with good shots and both have swelling on their right eyes. Another right hand from Brown and both Mein and Brown scores with huge inside hooks. Brown throws some knees on the inside and Mein steps back with some left hooks. Left hook to the body by Mein and he pops Brown with another left hook. Huge combination from Mein and he hurts Brown with a left hook to the body. Brown drops and Mein follows him to the ground, landing heavy shots to the body. Mein swarms with big punches but he's a bit wild and Brown may have recovered. Brown throws his legs up and he's got a triangle! Meins escapes and goes back to his feet. Huge knee from Brown and then another from Brown and Mein responds with an elbow. Monster elbow from Brown as the round ends. Wow what a round! 10-9 Brown

Round two: Stiff right hand from Brown and he swarms Mein along th efence. Big knees from Brown on the inside and he looks for a choke but Mein slips free. The ref warns Mein to fight back and Brown batters him with elbows to the head and body and the ref puts a stop to it! What a hell of a performance by Matt Brown!

Final result: Matt Brown defeats Jordan Mein via TKO at 1:00 of round two

145 lbs.: Darren Elkins vs. Chad Mendes

Round one: Mendes has control of the cage center early and he's the aggressor. Elkins is trying to work from the outside to no avail. Huge right hand to the temple drops Elkins. He follows him to the ground with punches and Elkins is history. Daaaaamn, that was very impressive!

Final result: Chad Mendez defeats Darren Elkins via TKO at 1:08 of round one

185 lbs.: Francis Carmont vs. Lorenz Larkin

Round one: Larkin is on his heels early, throwing some leg kicks as he backs up. Carmont steps forward with a crisp body kick which is blocked. Another heavy kick from Carmont and he definitely feels he has the advantage there. Inside leg kick from Larkin and he throws a very nice outside kick. Carmont changes levels, shooting in for a takedown along the fence. Carmont switches to a single leg attempt and Larkin fends him off for now. Carmont is relentless with his takedown attempts and Larkin drops some heavy elbows to the side of his head. Carmont has Larkin's head over his shoulder and Larkin still denies him. Good elbows from Larkin as Carmont hunches over for another attempt. Carmont gives up on it and they reset in the cage center. Body kick from Carmont is blocked and Larkin snaps a jab. Heavy leg kick from Larkin and he whiffs on an outside attack. Both miss with right hands and Larkin keeps Carmont at bay with a pair of kicks as time expires. 10-9 Carmont for the aggression

Round two: Right hand from Carmont connects to get things started and Larkin responds with a low kick. Carmont looks slower here and Larkin just misses with a huge head kick. Push kick from Larkin and he throws a spinning back kick. Larkin is starting to loosen up here and he connects with a stiff left jab. Carmontlands a leg kick and Larkin throws a slick spinning kick to Carmont's leg. Carmont tries to spin to no avail. Larkin goes after Carmont's lead leg and his head with a left jab. He's definitely the quicker fighter here. Upper cut from Larkin and Carmont shoots in for a takedown along the fence. Larkin has a very wide stance and Carmont briefly takes him down but he pops right back up. Huge elbows from Larkin along the fence and Carmont backs off. They trade inside leg kicks and Larkin lands a flush outside leg kick. Another heavy kick from Larkin and then another. Larkin steps forward with a huge leg kick and then a spinning kick to the leg staggers Carmont. Carmont tries to change levels for another takedown and he briefly gets it. Larkin throws elbows as the round finishes. 10-9 Larkin

Round three: Carmont catches a kick and tries to take Larkin's back standing. He has one hook in along the fence and tries to take his back but gives up on it. Larkin works some leg kicks and Carmont takes him down. Larkin locks him up looking to be aggressive from bottom with some submission attempts. Carmont shuts him down and passes to side control but Larkin retains guard and attacks with a gogoplata. Carmont again escapes and Larkin attacks with a Kimura which forces a sweep. Larkin tries to take his back but they explode to their feet.

Final result: Francis Carmont defeats Lorenz Larkin via unanimous decision (29-28 x3)

155 lbs.: Myles Jury vs. Ramsey Nijem

Round one: Good right hand from Jury catches Nijem coming in. Nijem wings a left hand over the top and throws a body kick but Jury catches it and drags him to the ground. Jury has Nijem wrapped up looking to catch Nijem in something but now Nijem is on top. Jury creates space and backs up into the fence, taking inside position and dropping down fo ra takedown. Jury briefly picks an ankle and has Nijem sitting down along the fence and he jumps on Nijem's back as Nijem turtles. Jury drops some hammer fists and attempts a body triangle but Nijem stands, slipping free as Jury throws up his legs with an armbar attempt. Nijem has Jury stacked up and he escapes the position, now landing on top. Jury gives up his back trying to escape to his feet and Nijem tries to take his back but Jury explodes into him, spinning around and taking top position as he turtles. Very fun grappling exchanges here. Nijem again escapes a bad position and they scramble until time expires. 10-9 Jury

Round two: Accidental eye poke from Jury early and they reset. Nijem is just wildly winging punches. He's just asking to get countered. Wild left hook from Nijem and Jury DESTROYS HIM with a massive right hand down the middle. Nijem is out cold in the center of the cage. Hot damn!

Final result: Myles Jury defeats Ramsey Nijem via knockout (overhand right) at 1:02 of round two

125 lbs.: Joseph Benavidez vs. Darren Uyenoyama

Round one: Benavidez has control of the cage center and he's looking to be the aggressor standing. Lead left hook from Benavidez and he clips Uyenoyama with a right hand. Uyenoyama drops for a takedown but gives up on it immediately. Body kick from Uyenoyama and Benavidez catches it, landing a big right hand and he drops into Uyenoyama's guard with some punches. He thinks about entering Uyenoyama's guard and dives in but backs out quickly. Left jab from Uyenoyama and he eats a kick to the groin. They reset and Benavidez wings a body kick but Uyenoyama responds with a nice body kick of his own. Big right hand from Benavidez and Uyenoyama drops to the safety of his back briefly before popping to his feet. Benavidez is looking for that huge overhand right and Uyenoyama throws a pair of right body kick. Combination from Benavidez and he's very loose. HUGE head kick from Benavidez clips Uyenoyama in the back of the head and he follows Uyenoyama to the ground but he recovers. They clinch on the feet and Benavidez takes him down but backs out pretty quickly. Benavidez wings some head kicks on the feet but they don't connect. He's got a small cut near his eye as time expires. 10-9 Benavidez

Round two: Benavidez is just going after Uyenoyama on the feet in the opening minute, just winging heavy punches and kicks. A few clip Uyenoyama but he can't follow up. Benavidez throws a huge combination and Uyenoyama ducks under, clinching and taking grabbing a reverse body lock. He tries to drag Benavidez to the ground but Benavidez stays on top and drops some heavy punches before backing out to his feet. Benavidez is really coming after Uyenoyama now on the feet. Left jab from Benavidez and then another and Benavidez backs him into the fence with a flurry. Leg kick from Benavidez and he's really chasing after Uyenoyama. Short combination from Benavidez and a head kick is partially blocked. Benavidez is just winging huge shots with no fear of a counter. Big body kick from Benavidez connects heavily and Uyenoyama is hurt. Benavidez pours it on with more punches and then a left hook to the liver drops Uyenoyama. He throws some punches on the ground and Uyenoyama is done.

Final result: Joseph Benavidez defeats Darren Uyenoyama via TKO (liver shots) at 4:50 of round two

155 lbs.: Jorge Masvidal vs. Tim Means

Round one: Both men starting out patiently as Masvidal stays on the outside looking for an opening. Good straight left from Means and then another. He caught Masvidal hard there. Masvidal's defensive style could backfire if he doesn't react. Just as I say that, Masvidal steps inside with a very nice right hand and then a body kick. Good spinning elbow from Means and Masvidal responds with an overhand right. Means is finding a home for the straight left and Masvidal is trying to counter. Jab connects for Masvidal and Means is really working the 1-2 combo and trying to finish it with a hard left. Masvidal shoots in and gets a takedown but Means pops back to his feet, although Masvidal has a reverse body lock. Masvidal has one hook in standing but Means escapes and turns into him, forcing a separation. Spinning elbow just misses for Means and he connects with a low leg kick. Means changes levels and shoots in for a takedown but gets stuffed. Heavy left hook to the body from Means and he lands another left at the end of the round. Good hand speed from both men. 10-9 Means

Round two: Masvidal shoots in working for a takedown and Means fends him off with an underhook but he loses his balance and gets dropped to his back. Means is very active from bottom with punches and kicks. Huge up kick from Means and he uses it to get to his feet. Masvidal unloads a pair of nice combinations once they get back to standing and he dumps Means on his back once more. Masvidal unloads some ground and pound and Means turtles. Means pops to his feet and Masvidal has a body lock, taking him down again and he drops some punches and elbows now inside Means' full guard. Very nice elbows from Masvidal here. Means throws some elbows from bottom but Masvidal is landing the heavier shots. Means throws some good elbows from bottom and someone is busted up as time expires, I think it's Masvidal. 10-9 Masvidal

Round three: Very nice left hand from Means gets things started and then another left snaps Masvidal's head back. Left hand to the body and then the head by Means and he's getting the better of these exchanges. Body kick from Masvidal and he catches a kick from Means but Means throws a big knee as he works for the takedown attempt. Masvidal's cut has opened up again and he completes the takedown. More elbows from Means as Masvidal works for a takedown but Means escapes and separates. Masvidal is bleeding pretty heavily. Great step-in elbow from Means and Masvidal takes him down but Means is just unloading elbows from bottom. Masvidal tries to throw ground and pound but Means is blocking most of his attack. Means throws his legs up with a high guard briefly and Means throws a good left elbow from bottom. Means is trying to isolate an arm and he scores a Kimura sweep into full mount! He takes top position and drops some HUGE punches on Masvidal at the end of the round. 10-9 Means

Final result: Jorge Masvidal defeats Tim Means via unanimous decision (29-28 x3)

135 lbs.: T.J. Dillashaw vs. Hugo Viana

Round one: Dillashaw opens with a leg kick and a jab as Viana tries to catch him coming in with a wide hook. Nice left hook from Viana but Dillashaw grabs a leg, lifts it up and takes him down with authority, brilliantly transitioning to his back during the scramble. Viana creates some space and escapes, landing an elbow along the cage and Dillashaw works hard to take him down but can't keep him there. Left hook connects for Viana and they separate. Dillashaw connects as Viana comes in and he briefly drops as they reset. Left hook connects for Dillashaw and he gets fancy with a creative head kick but it misses badly. Dillashaw is keeping his left hand low and he ducks under, landing a right hand but Viana holds his ground. Huge right hand connects for Dillashaw and Viana goes down again. He swarms and Viana recovers but he keeps the pressure on, going after Viana and he knocks him down again. Viana goes down along the fence and some heavy shots from Dillashaw force the referee to put a stop to it.

Final result: T.J. Dillashaw defeats Hugo Viana via TKO (punches) at 4:22 of round one

UFC ON FOX 7 PLAY-BY-PLAY "PRELIMS" COMMENTARY (FACEBOOK):

155 lbs.: Roger Bowling vs. Anthony Njokuani

Round one: Bowling opens with a lead left hook and he's trying to explode to the inside. Heavy body kick from Bowling and then another. He's pushing the pace pretty hard early. Another lead left hook from Bowling and he's really been able to step inside with some explosiveness. Njokuani responds with a body shot but Bowling is still the aggressor. Huge body shot form Njokuani and Bowling chases after him with a big body kick. Njokuani just avoids a big combination from Bowling as well as a head kick. Left jab from Njokuani and he's starting to find his timing with counters. Pair of chopping leg kicks from Bowling both land and Njokuani has to adjust. Just as he does, Bowling shoots in and takes him down with a power double leg, landing inside his guard. Njokuani uses the fence to get back to his feet and they trade some short strikes on the inside. Big knee and a combination from Njokuani along the fence and he turns it on here at the end of the round. Straight right from Njokuani as the horn sounds. 10-9 Njokuani

Round two: Njokuani catches a leg kick and trips Bowling. Bowling is telegraphing all his shots with huge wind-ups. That's going to backfire as he slows down.
