The Ultimate Fighting Championship's (UFC) annual July 4th weekend fight card is nearly complete as a welterweight bout between Mike Pierce and David Mitchell has been added to the July 6, 2013, event, set to go down at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Both men earned victories in their last UFC bouts and will look to continue to build momentum in the division by adding another tick to the win column.
MMA Junkie first reported the bout; however, UFC officials have yet to confirm the 170-pound match up.
Pierce (16-5) is an 11-fight UFC veteran who defeated Seth Baczynski by unanimous decision in his last fight at UFC on FX 6. The victory pushed Pierce's current win-streak to three and he will look to earn a UFC career best fourth consecutive victory when he steps in the cage at UFC 162.
The 32-year-old has won five of his seven UFC fights by decision including victories over Aaron Simpson, Carlos Eduardo Rocha and Brock Larson.
Mitchell (12-2) returned to mixed martial arts (MMA) after an 18-month absence last January when won a unanimous decision over Simeon Thoresen at UFC on FOX 6. The win was Mitchell's first career UFC victory after failing to register Octagon wins against TJ Waldburger and Paulo Thiago in his first two attempts.
"Daudi" has earned nine of his 12 career victories by submission and has yet to be finished in MMA competition.
Pierce vs. Mitchell will likely take place on the preliminary portion of the UFC 162 fight card, which is likely to be broadcasted on FX and Facebook. The main card can be seen on pay-per-view (PPV).
UFC 162: "Silva vs. Weidman" goes down July 6, 2013, from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The main event of the evening will see UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva put his belt on the line for the 10th time against undefeated Chris Weidman.
