What, you thought the fight announcements had stopped?
Fat chance.
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has added another intriguing bout to its Fourth of July weekend show (July 6, 2013) as middleweights Tim Boetsch and Mark Munoz are slated to duke it out in Las Vegas, according to a report from MMAFighting.com.
Munoz (12-3) has not competed since losing to Chris Weidman in the main event of UFC on Fuel TV 4 in San Jose last July. He has been on the mend following a serious injury ever since. Before that, he was among the top contenders in the middleweight division and had even called out champion Anderson Silva.
It looks like that fight against Hector Lombard won't be happening...at least not yet.
Boetsch (15-6) was on the verge of title contention himself before having his unbeaten middleweight streak snapped by Costantinos Philippou in his last bout at UFC 155 in a fight where he won the first round but suffered a gnarly cut due to a headbutt and was also injured. Before that, he knocked off the likes of Yushin Okami and Hector Lombard during a very impressive run after dropping down from the light heavyweight division.
UFC 162 will be headlined by a middleweight title fight between Anderson Silva and Chris Weidman. Stay tuned for more details on the upcoming event as they arrive.
