UFC on FUEL TV 8 results: Wanderlei Silva knocks out Brian Stann in 'Fight of the Year' candidate

Wanderlei Silva and Brian Stann were tasked with saving an awfully boring UFC on FUEL TV 8 event from Saitama, Japan, last night (March 2, 2013) and they did just that. "The Axe Murderer" knocked out "All American" after a "Fight of the Year" level brawl.

Sometimes fights are put together in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) that don't have a great deal of relevance on the title picture in a particular weight class, and that was the case with the Wanderlei Silva vs. Brian Stann main event bout at last night's (March 2, 2013) UFC on FUEL TV 8 event at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.

But holy hell was it a good time. We're talking "Fight of the Year" candidate, and though the year is young, this one should stand the test of time.

That's because Silva and Stann brought all the firepower they had to "The Land of the Rising Sun," hoping to make "The Axe Murderer's" return to the country he became a legend in a special one.

Right out of the gate, the two threw caution to the wind, stood toe-to-toe against the fence, and unleashed a flurry of punches that no normal human being should be able to withstand. Even though both men have been questioned for their chin in recent memory, most notably Silva, they withstood an unbelievable amount of punishment while bruising and battering each other with countless shots to the head.

Both fighters scored multiple knockdowns, both men were cut up and bleeding all over the place after one round, and it looked like the winds could have blown in either direction.

As it turned out, Silva was the one who landed the harder shot with the right timing in the perfect spot to shut Stann's lights off and pick up a second round knockout victory.

Find the highlights -- we'll have them later for you at MMAmania.com, of course -- because this one should be viewed repeatedly.
