Although it wouldn't have a great deal of divisional relevance at either middleweight or light heavyweight, the latter the weight the bout was contested at, the Wanderlei Silva vs. Brian Stann showdown in the main event of UFC on FUEL TV 8 last night (Sat., March 2, 2013) at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan, was going to be fun nonetheless.
After a wild round one, the two bloody combatants took their time coming out for the second. A bit of fatigue had to be setting in and that was clear simply by the fact that each guy was actually bothering to look for an opening this time instead of simply unloading.
After about two minutes, Stann once again landed a kick to "Wandy's" nutsack that brought a screeching halt to the action.
Ouch.
Silva started to diversify his attack after the restart, picking his spots with those wide arching punches but mixing in a head kick or two that surprised Stann.
Then, it happened.
Silva landed a hard shot across the chin that stunned Stann and once the Brazilian saw he had his opponent hurt, he brought back that trademark aggression that made him so famous in Japan, finishing the knockout with a few more shots on the ground.
