UFC on FUEL TV 8: "Silva vs. Stann" from the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan, is officially in the books after a very long night (March 2, 2013) of mixed martial arts (MMA) action.
The main event of the evening, Wanderlei Silva vs. Brian Stann, was a special 205-pound bout that marked the return of "The Axe Murderer" to Japan, which is where the Brazilian established his reputation as one of the greatest fighters to compete in the sport.
Welcome home, Wand.
Silva scored an emphatic knockout in the second round of a fight that was absolutely electrifying from the opening bell. Stann had his fair share of moments, especially in the opening frame, but Silva hung on and delivered yet another heart-stopping performance in front of an adoring crowd.
In other main card action, Mark Hunt finished Stefan Struve in the third round of their Heavyweight co-main event with a huge left hook, Diego Sanchez stole a decision from Takanori Gomi and Yushin Okami avoided the punching power of Hector Lombard to earn a split decision of his own.
Anyway, as usual, all the stars of the show came to dish the dirt on the event immediately afterward at the post-fight press conference, including Silva and Hunt, among others. Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White -- who almost always emcees the post-fight event wrap up shows -- was not in attendance, sitting this one out and letting his Managing Director of UFC Asia, Mark Fischer, attempt to fill his speaking duties.
Enjoy.
