"[Nick Diaz has] still got a ton of hype behind him... he's ranked in the top ten, so that would be a good win for me. Yeah, I'd love to beat his (expletive)."
-- Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Welterweight contender Martin Kampmann is currently without a fight, but in a recent interview with BJPenn.com expressed interest in taking on former title challenger Nick Diaz. "The Hitman" currently sits at No. 7 in the official UFC rankings, while Diaz is at No. 6. It's hard to argue the fight wouldn't make sense, as both men are coming off high profile losses at 170-pounds -- Kampmann to Johny Hendricks and Diaz to divisional kingpin Georges St. Pierre. While the status of the Stockton native's career is unknown at this time, it's unlikely he would have any quarrels with being matched up against Kampmann as the Danish fighter is not one who would attempt to take Diaz to the ground and smother him there. On paper, a Kampmann vs. Diaz match up is quite intriguing. Neither man has ever been submitted in mixed martial arts (MMA) while combining for 36 stoppage victories out of 46 overall wins. While a loss for either fighter would be a tremendous setback at this point, the winner would springboard back into title contention in the weight class.
