UFC champ Demetrious Johnson wants main event spot at UFC on FOX 8 in Seattle

Although he is not entirely recovered his recent surgery, UFC champion Demetrious Johnson is campaigning for a spot on the UFC on FOX 8 fight card, which goes down in his home town/home state of Seattle, Wash., on July 27, 2013.

Reigning Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson is aiming for a summer return to action after undergoing surgery for a torn labrum, and he wants that return to take place in his hometown of Seattle, Washington.

UFC officials announced Friday (March 22, 2013) that just seven months after hitting "The Emerald City" for UFC on FOX 5 in December 2012, the Octagon is going to travel back to Seattle for another network television event at KeyArena on July 27, 2013.

While details regarding a potential fight card for the event were not unveiled, one of the UFC's champions is offering his services to put his title on the line in the main event of the evening.

"Spread the word, I want the UFC on FOX 8 headline spot, if it hasn't been filled yet," Johnson wrote to Ariel Helwaniof MMA Fighting via text message.

Johnson (17-2-1) was scheduled to face John Moraga at the upcoming The Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale in April in what would have been his third title fight in seven months; however, the labrum injury forced him off the card and under the knife.

Should "Mighty Mouse" compete at UFC on FOX 8, it's likely the UFC will rebook the match up against Moraga.

Despite being born in Kentucky, Johnson currently resides and trains in Kirkland, Wash., at AMC Pankration under head coach Matt Hume.

MMAmania.com will have more details on the UFC on FOX 8 fight card as they become available.
