The upcoming (May 18, 2013) UFC on FX 8 event in Santa Catarina, Brazil, just got a bit juicier as a featherweight match-up between says Manny Gamburyan and Hacran Dias according to a report by SporTV.
Gamburyan (12-7) is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Michihiro Omigawa last August which likely helped him remain employed with the promotion. The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) season five finalist sports a 3-5 record inside the Octagon and has only truly experienced one solid run of success, a three fight winning streak in WEC which earned him a title shot against Jose Aldo, one he would lose via devastating second round knockout.
Since returning to the Octagon after the merger, "The Anvil" has gone 1-2. He was expected to take on Chad Mendes at UFC 157 but pulled out after suffering a thumb injury. He'll be taking on one of the top featherweight prospects in the world in Dias.
Dias (21-1-1) has looked good in his lone UFC appearance, easily handing the always dangerous Yuri Alcantara at UFC 147 last June. Just like Gamburyan, he was also slated to take on Chad Mendes but was forced to pull out of the fight after suffering a training injury last December. Dias is one of the brightest featherweight prospects out of Nova Uniao, a team which boasts the likes of Renan Barao, Aldo and much, much more. He'll be looking to take his game to the next level over a notable opponent should he get past Gamburyan in May.
