Riki Fukuda cut by UFC, recruited by Jon Fitch for World Series of Fighting (WSOF)

One door closes, another door opens.

Looks like Riki may have a new place to call home after getting the big Fukuda from Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

The Japanese import was relieved of his duties after his unanimous decision loss to Brad Tavares at the UFC on FUEL TV 8 event last month in Saitama, dropping him to just 2-3 inside the Octagon. That was enough to earn the veteran middleweight his pink slip.

But it looks like having a friend and training partner in Jon Fitch, who was also unceremoniously booted from ZUFFA, could pay dividends.

The former UFC welterweight number one contender is now a major player for World Series of Fighting (WSOF) and has already done some recruiting for the upstart mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion. Of course, this is nothing but an unofficial invite, but perhaps fighters looking for a home will at least have options heading into the second half of 2013.

Assuming this weekend's big event goes off without a hitch.
