UFC 158 medical suspension and injuries: Longest layoff is 60 days (Nate Marquardt)

Somewhere out there in MMA land, Dr. Johnny Benjamin is shaking his head in disgust.

USA TODAY Sports

Régie des alcools des courses et des jeux (Quebec's athletic commission) today issued its list of medical suspensions for UFC 158: "St. Pierre vs. Diaz," which took place on Sat., March 16, 2013, from the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada.

Considering some of the carnage that took place in "The City of Saints," these guys got off with a mere slap on the wrist. In fact, the longest medical suspension was just 60 days, awarded to Nate Marquardt for kissing the canvas in his fight against Jake Ellenberger.

That's music to the ears of Johny Hendricks (14 days), who will now train unencumbered for his fight against Georges St. Pierre later this year.

Here is the complete list of UFC 158 medical suspensions (via MMA Junkie):

Seven-day suspension:

Jake Ellenberger
Darren Elkins
Jordan Mein
Rick Story
T.J. Dillashaw

14-day suspension:

Johny Hendricks
Carlos Condit
Chris Camozzi
Nick Ring
Mike Ricci
Colin Fletcher
Patrick Cote
Bobby Voelker
John Makdessi
George Roop

28-day suspension:

Georges St. Pierre
Nick Diaz

30-day suspension:

Antonio Carvalho
Dan Miller
Quinn Mulhern

45-day suspension:

Daron Cruickshank
Issei Tamura
Reuben Duran

60-day suspension:

Nate Marquardt

Just a quick reminder: Fighters often return to action much quicker once doctors give them the green light. The lengthy (or in this case, not-so-lengthy) suspensions are just a precaution in most cases.
