UFC 158 results: 30 post-event facts about ‘St. Pierre vs. Diaz'

UFC 158: "St. Pierre vs. Diaz" took place Saturday night (March 2, 2013) in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, with Georges St. Pierre defeating Nick Diaz by decision in the main event to retain the UFC welterweight championship of the world. Also on the main card; Johny Hendricks, Jake Ellenberger, Chris Camozzi and Mike Ricci picked up victories over their respective opponents.

There were plenty of facts to come out of UFC 158: "St. Pierre vs. Diaz," which took place at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on March 16, 2013.

Some are notable; others irrelevant and a few will expand your knowledge.

For instance, we know that Georges St. Pierre and Nick collided in the main event, with "Rush" earning a five-round unanimous decision victory and, in the process, defending his Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight crown for the eighth time.

That's not all we know, though.

  1. Canadian fighters went 5-2 against opponents from other countries on the card.
  2. George Roop is the third fighter in UFC history (Diego Sanchez, Kenny Florian) to win fights in three different weight classes (155, 145, 135).
  3. Johny Hendricks, Carlos Condit and Jake Ellenberger earned $50,000 post-fight bonuses.
  4. Nate Marquardt was knocked out for the second time in his 46-fight career and is on the first two-fight losing streak of his career.
  5. St. Pierre is just 39-seconds behind B.J. Penn for the most total fight time in UFC history at five hours, three minutes and 12 seconds.
  6. Chris Camozzi tied Francis Carmont for the third longest active UFC win-streak in the middleweight division (Chris Weidman and Constantinos Philippou tied for second with five, Anderson Silva had 11).
  7. T.J. Dillashaw has won three fights in a row since losing to John Dodson in the bantamweight finals of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 14.
  8. Colin Fletcher dropped to 0-2 in the UFC and 0-2 when fighting outside of the United Kingdom.
  9. Hendricks tied Thiago Alves for third most UFC wins among active welterweights at 10.
  10. Diaz is 7-6 in his 13 fights under the UFC banner with all of his defeats coming by decision.
  11. St. Pierre owns the most total welterweight title defenses in UFC history at eight.
  12. UFC 158 drew an attendance of 20,145 for a live gate of $3,700,000.
  13. Patrick Cote won back-to-back fights in the UFC for the first time since 2007 -- a span over five-and-a-half years.
  14. Condit fought to a decision for the third time in a row, marking the first time in his 35-fight career.
  15. Hendricks has won six fights in a row, is 10-1 overall under the UFC banner and has defeated four top-10 opponents in a row.
  16. Jordan Mein is 9-1 in his past 10 fights with the only defeat coming to Tyron Woodley by split decision under the Strikeforce banner.
  17. Daron Cruickshank lost a decision for the first time in his 15-fight career.
  18. St. Pierre tied Matt Hughes' record for the most wins in UFC history at 18.
  19. Quinn Mulhern was knocked out for the first time in his 21-fight career.
  20. In the 12 events the UFC has held in Canada, Canadian fighters are at 38-34 when facing opponents from other countries.
  21. Darren Elkins is undefeated (5-0) in the UFC featherweight division and 6-1 overall under the UFC banner.
  22. Betting favorites went 9-3 on the fight card.
  23. Dan Miller was finished for the first time in his 22-fight career.
  24. Condit has won a post-fight bonus in five of his last six UFC appearances.
  25. Elkins tied Dustin Poirier for most featherweight wins of any fighter in UFC history at five.
  26. Story earned his first TKO since Dustin Hazelett in August 2010.
  27. According to Fight Metric, Hendricks successfully completed 12 of 15 takedown attempts against Condit.
  28. Mein has finished his opponent in 22 of his 27 victories, 14 by (technical) knockout and seven by submission.
  29. The total cage time of the 12-bout UFC 158 fight card was two hours, 14 minutes and 19 seconds.
  30. St. Pierre set the UFC record for most consecutive time without a finish at 150 minutes, topping Jon Fitch's 145 minute, 12 second run from 2007-2011.
