Georges St. Pierre vs. Nick Diaz fight results UFC 158, Round 1

The most highly anticipated fight in a long, long time finally went down tonight (Sat., March 16, 2013) at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, with Nick Diaz challenging welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre in the main event of UFC 158 live on pay-per-view.

Round one saw St. Pierre open with a leg kick. It didn't take long for Diaz to press forward with punches and "Rush" to duck underneath for his first takedown of the fight. This all occurred within the first 15 seconds after what was, of course, a tense staredown.

"GSP" worked his usual suffocating game while Diaz rolled around and looked to grab a leg to try to get back to his feet. As he's done with so many opponents before, Georges controlled and landed punches while keeping Nick contained in side control.

Diaz continued trying to tie up the wrist and roll out to stand up but the champion wasn't having any of it, dragging him back away from the cage when the California native got to it in an attempt to get back to his feet. He managed to do so but only briefly.

Essentially, the entire first round was St. Pierre doing what he does best and controlling Diaz with superior strength, positioning, and that strong wrestling game that has made him one of the best ever.
