Chad Mendes can't catch a break.
The former featherweight number one contender was supposed to fight Manny Gamburyan at the UFC 157 pay-per-view (PPV) event last month in Anaheim, but when "The Manvil" had to withdraw due to injury, he was boxed up with Clay Guida and shipped off to UFC on FOX 7.
Now, "The Carpenter" is hurt.
That means "Money" has been shortchanged for the second straight show, though he's expected to remain on the April 20 fight card at the HP Pavilion in San Jose against an opponent to be named, according to Sherdog.com.
Mendes (13-1) suffered the only loss of his career at the hands (and knee) of Jose Aldo last year in Brazil. The former World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) standout didn't spend any time feeling sorry for himself and immediately bounced back with consecutive knockout wins over Cody McKenzie and Yaotzin Meza.
Who's ready to step up?
UFC on FOX 7 features a lightweight championship fight between Ben Henderson, looking to defend his world title against Strikeforce 155-pound title winner Gilbert Melendez in the Octagon debut for "El Nino," while another import, Daniel Cormier, will co-headline the event opposite former champion Frank Mir in a pivotal heavyweight showdown.
