Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) featherweight kingpin Jose Aldo is reportedly heading back home to defend his 145-pound strap against lightweight import Anthony Pettis in the main event of UFC 163, scheduled for Aug. 3, 2013 at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Tatame.com brought word of the pending destination on Tuesday.
Pettis, who wore gold under the World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) banner, was expected to fight the winner of Ben Henderson vs. Gilbert Melendez; however, "Showtime" doesn't feel like rolling the dice and betting against a controversial decision or possible injury, both of which could delay his crack at the crown.
Instead, he'll shed some skin and battle for the belt somewhere else.
His trip south marks the second straight fight for "Junior" against a former -- or in this case current -- lightweight fighter, a tough pill to swallow for 145-pound contenders like Ricardo Lamas and Chan Sung Jung. "The Korean Zombie" called out the champ on Twitter (again), but that got him nothing but a bunch of retweets.
That's life in the fight game.
No other fights have been announced for UFC 163 at this time, as the destination is still awaiting official confirmation from promotion executives. Be sure to keep it locked in to MMAmania.com for all the future developments as they unfold.
