Two talented Light Heavyweight mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters -- Ryan Jimmo and Igor Pokrajac -- will collide at UFC 161, which is scheduled to take place at MTS Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, on June 15, 2013.
Neil Davidson of the Canadian Press was the first to pass along news of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) bout that will be included on the promotion's first venture into the province.
Jimmo, who most recently competed at UFC on Fuel TV 7 last month, is coming off a hard-fought decision loss to James Te Huna. Prior to the setback, Jimmo was on a 17-fight win streak, including nine finishes and a Maximum Fighting Championship 205-pound title.
"Big Deal" will be coming off a loss for the first time since 2007.
Pokrajac, a divisional journeyman for some time, has a nine-fight tenure with the promotion, posting four wins with five losses. His clinch-based game has brought him victories over Fabio Maldonado, Krzysztof Soszynski and James Irvin, among others.
Despite a losing record inside the Octagon, Pokrajac, 34, still improves from fight-tofight.
UFC 161 will feature Bantamweight champion Renan Barao, putting his 135-pound interim title on the line against No. 1 division contender Eddie Wineland in the main event of the evening. Two pivotal light heavyweight bouts -- Antonio Rogerio Nogueira vs. Mauricio Rua (a rematch of their Pride FC classic from 2005) and Dan Henderson vs. Rashad Evans -- are also currently slated to compete on the pay-per-view (PPV) main card.
