Urijah Faber vs. Frankie Edgar? 'California Kid' open to 'huge' UFC showdown against 'The Answer'

After coming up short against Renan Barao at UFC 149 last July for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) interim bantamweight title, Urijah Faber got back on the winning track last weekend (Feb. 23, 2013), submitting Ivan Menjivar in the very first round at UFC 157.

The win, believe it or not, inched "The California Kid" that much closer to another title shot, seeing as how the promotion's 135-pound division isn't exactly loaded with title contenders at the moment.

Though the former World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) featherweight champion would love nothing more than to get another crack at the crown -- preferably against bitter rival and current division champ Dominick Cruz -- Faber first has to get past his next challenge inside the Octagon as he faces Scott Jorgensen on April 13, 2013 in the main event of The Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale.

With a decade of experience in the mixed martial arts (MMA) game on his resume, Faber, who will be 34 years old in June, feels he can now "cash in" on the fruits of his labor and partake in a couple of "super fights" before his time in the hurt business comes to an end.

Speaking to Sherdog Radio Network's "Beatdown" show, "The California Kid" talked about the possibility of moving back up to the 145-pound weight class and says he wouldn't be opposed to taking on another ex-champion in the form of former lightweight titleholder, Frankie Edgar.

"I wouldn't mind taking a fight at 145. It would have to be the right fight. I've said this for a long time. I want to do the fights that are big, that people care about. That (Frankie Edgar) sounds like a huge fight to me. Frankie, as far as I'm concerned, if he gets the nod on Benson Henderson, he's one of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the world. Then he goes in against who I, in my true heart, feel is the best fighter pound-for-pound in the world in Jose Aldo and has a great fight with him. It's really a fight with a couple of the best pound-for-pound guys."

For the Team Alpha Male leader, it's all about finally "cashing in" on all of his hard work and experience:

"I've had a long career where I feel like I could be able to cash in at this point. The UFC, although they get a lot of flak sometimes, they are very fair. I have no complaints about them being unfair to the fighters or anything like that. They go above and beyond. If there's some superfights and they feel I could be a good sale, I'd be willing to do that as well."

Of course, Urijah recognizes that chatter is premature as he is solely focused on "Young Guns" in what will be a collision of two former WEC stars who have found success inside the UFC's Octagon since making the jump to the promotion in 2011.

Nevertheless, one can't help but to wonder just how a fight between "The Answer" and "The California Kid" would go down should the two former champs ever meet inside the cage.
