The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was quick to find a new main event for The Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale as former World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) champion Urijah Faber will make a quick turnaround after his UFC 157 victory over Ivan Menjivar to face Scott Jorgensen in a bantamweight contest at the April 13, 2013, event in Las Vegas, Nevada.
It was reported on Tuesday (Feb. 26, 2013) that the originally scheduled TUF 17 Finale main event between flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson and John Moraga had been scrapped from the card due to a "Mighty Mouse" injury, forcing the UFC to undergo a search for the main event.
It didn't take long to fill the slot, as UFC President Dana White tweeted late Tuesday night the new headliner is between Faber, the UFC's second-ranked 135-pound fighter and Jorgensen, the UFC's No. 7 ranked bantamweight.
Faber (27-6) is coming off a quick and decisive submission victory over Ivan Menjivar at UFC 157: "Rousey vs. Carmouche," and will enter the cage for the second time in just 46-days when he takes on Jorgensen.
"The California Kid" has not racked up back-to-back victories in over two years, and after his first-round finish of Menjivar will be looking to build some momentum in hopes of earning another bantamweight title shot.
Jorgensen (14-6) will be looking to score the biggest victory of his career when he takes on Faber in his first-ever UFC main event. "Young Guns" has only lost to Dominick Cruz, Renan Barao and Eddie Wineland in the past four years, but has never been able to capture that signature win that moves him in to top contenders status.
The 30-year-old is also coming off a first-round submission victory, as he defeated John Albert at UFC on FOX 5 last December.
TUF 17 Finale goes down April 13, 2013, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Also scheduled for the card is the second-ever women's UFC bout between Miesha Tate and Cat Zingano, as well as a heavyweight contest that pits Travis Browne against Gabriel Gonzaga.
