Invicta Fighting Championship planned to hold three title fights for its seventh show tonight (Dec. 7, 2013). One of those bouts was going to be a strawweight title fight between Carla Esparza and Claudia Gadelha. It's a bout that has been booked before, but scratched because Esparza suffered an injury in training.
Unfortunately, the bout won't be happening as Gadelha was forced to withdraw due to illness. Early Saturday morning MMA Mania learned from Invicta that Gadelha was running a high fever late Friday night and she was diagnosed with a bacterial infection when she reached the hospital.
"Claudia ran a high fever late Friday evening and went to the hospital where she was diagnosed with a bacterial infection in her intestines," said Shannon Knapp, President Invicta Fighting Championships. "We know Claudia wanted this title opportunity more than anything and all of us at Invicta wish her a speedy recovery.
"Tonight's PPV will go on as planned with two world championship fights and a stacked undercard."
The Invicta 7 under card 'Prelims' will be streamed on Invicta.com while the main card will be available on pay-per-view.
