Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) made sure our weekend started off with a bang after a memorable main event that we will be talking about for quite some time.
The co-main event was nothing short of spectacular, as well.
Before we get into the winners of the main card, note that Mark Hunt and Antonio Silva's epic clash and potential "fight of the year" thus far ended in a draw -- therefore, we can not match them up with anybody else but themselves for their next bout (watch video highlights of their bloody war here).
It makes all the sense in the world, and after what we saw last night, it would be upsetting if that does not happen.
Indeed, after every fight card, mixed martial arts (MMA) fans are already thinking about what the future holds for the stars of the show. With another night of action-packed fights, let's peer into our crystal ball and predict possible matchmaking scenarios.
Now, onto the five winners of UFC Fight Night 33's main card:
Winner: Bethe Correia
Who She Should Fight Next: Julianna Pena
Why They Should Fight: As we mentioned in last week's installment of this feature, the winner of the fight between Bethe Correia and Julie Kedzie would be the first real test of Julianna Pena's fighting career in the UFC.
Although the UFC usually paves the road for their The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) winners in their first few fights, this would be a solid match up, with Pena possessing the wrestling threat and the undefeated Correia edging her in the stand-up skills.
If styles make fights, this one should be considered.
Winner: Clint Hester
Who He Should Fight: C.B. Dollaway
Why They Should Fight: Even though Hester's fight with Dylan Andrews did not end the way we would have liked it too, one thing is for sure, Hester really could use some work on his ground skills.
The thing about a sport such as this one is that those types of challenges should be anticipated in future fights, and Hester can expect a fight to go anywhere with C.B. Dollaway.
It would be a little bit of a step up in competition for Hester, yet he can take advantage of his superior speed and the fact that "The Doberman" would rather have the fight contested with both contestants trading blows.
Winner: Soa Palelei
Who He Should Fight Next: Jared Rosholt
Why They Should Fight: They have both fought in the last two weeks, and it makes sense since they are both in search of getting through the opposition as they come forth in their young UFC careers.
Palelei is the veteran, and even though it took him awhile to get to the UFC, he showed that he is a tough match for anyone in the division after knocking out Pat Barry. Rosholt is a great wrestler, but can he take down the behemoth?
This potential fight should be made to see who can ascend in the heavyweight ranks, and start stringing a few wins together inside the Octagon.
This definitely was not the same Palelei we saw in his last fight.
Winner: Ryan Bader
Who He Should Fight Next: Thiago Silva
Why They Should Fight: It's simple, because in all likelihood, someone will be getting knocked out.
Not that we savagely want that to happen, however on the flip side, we do enjoy finishes.
This one would have that term written all over it, and both combatants have made a career in the UFC by facing some of the toughest opposition in all of the division on a consistent basis.
"Darth" Bader was surprisingly clocked by Anthony Perosh a few times, and the knockout power that both men have under their belts means this would be great to watch.
It all depends if and when Silva comes back, and if Ovince St. Preux is out of the picture.
Winner: Mauricio Rua
Who He Should Fight Next: Antonio Rogerio Nogueira
Why They Should Fight: Some of you know the answer to that question.
Assuming "Shogun" stays at light heavyweight, the pivotal rematch between these two Brazilians that was supposed to happen earlier this year at UFC 161 should happen now, if it is ever going to happen.
There are many names at middleweight that suit "Shogun," and guys like Michael Bisping, Cung Le or Rich Franklin would be amazing fights to envision, but the epic clash between Rua and Nogueira at Pride FC's Critical Countdown in 2005 remains as one of the best fights in the promotion's history, and we were so close to seeing it almost 10 years later. Of course, "Lil' Nog" would have to come back from injury sooner rather than later for that to happen.
That does it for this edition.
