Things must be really awkward inside the FOX Sports locker room.
That's because former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Light Heavyweight Champion Rashad Evans -- who recently beat the brakes off fellow analyst Chael Sonnen -- will now have to strap on the gloves to square off against another television talker in the form of Daniel Cormier.
That's according to "Suga," who made the blockbuster announcement on the UFC Fight Night 33 weigh in show.
Cormier (13-0) will be making his 205-pound debut in the co-headliner of the upcoming UFC 170 pay-per-view (PPV) event, which is booked for the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, on February 22, 2013. That doesn't give him a tremendous amount of time to cut weight, but no matter.
He was already on his way down.
Despite a perfect record at heavyweight, one that includes wins over Antonio Silva, Josh Barnett and Frank Mir, "DC" is jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire. Evans (19-3) had a bit of a rough patch earlier this year after consecutive losses to Jon Jones and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, but rebounded with back-to-back wins over Dan Henderson and the aforementioned Sonnen (watch it).
That said, a win for Cormier could conceivably vault him into his long-desired title fight against bitter rival Jon Jones, depending on how well "Bones" does in his title defense against Glover Teixeira (details). Though I would have to imagine it would take a finish for the former Olympian to leapfrog fellow contender Alexander Gustafsson.
Unless "The Mauler" comes up empty in this fight across the pond.
There are still plenty of pieces to sort out in this 205-pound puzzle, fight fans, but what we do know is that someone is getting eliminated from the division title race.
Will it be Evans or Cormier?
