Chris Weidman defeated Anderson Silva to retain his middleweight championship title in the main event of UFC 168 last night (Sat., Dec. 28, 2013) at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. That's what the box score says but right next to where "TKO" is written it will say "injury" in parentheses. That injury was a severely broken leg (see the gruesome photos here, if you dare). It occurred in the second round when Silva threw a leg kick and Weidman checked it perfectly, causing the former champion's bone to snap. It only took him attempting to step back on it to realize the horror of what had happened to him. Obviously, the bout was immediately called and Weidman declared the winner, though no one wanted it to happen like this. As it were, he was winning the fight handily in the opening frame. It's just too bad it had to end like this.
