The main event of tonight's (Sat., Dec. 14, 2013) UFC on Fox 9: "Johnson vs. Benavidez" event from the Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, California, featured Flyweight Champion Demetrious Johnson welcoming yet another challenge from Joseph Benavidez, whom he vanquished back at UFC 152 last year.
Second verse, same as the first ... kind of.
While Johnson needed a full five round and 25 minutes to earn a split in the first meeting, he disposed of his foe much quicker this time around. Indeed, a few exchanges yielded zero results for either fighter until Johnson came hard with a big punch just as "Joe-B" was coming in on him.
That meant a quick trip to Never Never Land.
Benavidez fell out completely, flat on his back, knocked out immediately. One punch was all it took, though "Mighty Mouse" followed up with a series of punches on the ground that were all brutally unnecessary.
Still, better to be sure than let your opponent wake up and keep fighting you.
Who said the flyweights can't finish like that?
