Considering the fact that Gray Maynard and Nate Diaz had met twice before, splitting those bouts in 2007 and 2010, respectively, it only made sense for the two lightweights to have one more go of it. That happened in the main event of tonight's (Sat., Nov. 30, 2013) The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 18 Finale at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Maynard came out aggressive from the start, leaping in with that left hook he throws so very often. He missed, allowing Diaz to send some counter punches his way, but nothing doing.
A brief clinch led to "The Bully" taking Diaz to the mat. The fight didn't stay there for long, though, as Nate got back to his feet before a big throw from the Stockton slugger. They reset standing not long after and it was there that Diaz did some big damage.
He started landing huge shots and after what seemed like a million punches to a clearly hurt Maynard, the referee stepped in to stop it.
Diaz wins by stoppage in round one.
