The co-main event of tonight's (Sat., Nov. 9, 2013) UFC Fight Night 32: "Belfort vs. Henderson" event from Goiania, Brazil, airing on Fox Sports 1, featured two former Ultimate Fighter: Brazil contestants, as season one winner Cezar Ferreira took on Daniel Sarafian.
Had it not been for an injury suffered by the former, this would have been the tournament final that season. Good thing they could book the two eventually, right?
Maybe not.
This was unquestionably the slowest bout of the evening, as the two took their sweet time getting going in the opening frame. There was far too much clinch work for the crowd's liking and very little offense until the final minute or so.
They got going a bit more in the second when Sarafian started landing some big shots and Ferreira worked a successful top game on the mat. He was actually working toward a submission at one point but ran out of time when an overzealous Mario Yamasaki stood them up.
Restless crowd is (was) restless.
A firefight broke out early in the third, much to the delight of the paying audience, but after Sarafian countered a spinning back kick with a bear hug, they went back to the mat and Ferreira demonstrated his clear advantage via superior position and control from top.
Points, y'all.
The bout came to a close with a memorable image of Ferreira riding Sarafian's back, screaming while looking for a rear-naked choke. After 15 minutes inside the cage, however, there was little to no energy to finish it.
The judges were called on to decide it, and they awarded the victory to Ferreira by scores of 29-28, 27-30, 30-28.
