Dan Henderson returns to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Octagon Saturday night (Nov. 9, 2013) against Vitor Belfort at the Goiania Arena in Goiania, Brazil. The bout is scheduled for five rounds and is a rematch from a 2006 bout between the two at PRIDE 32.
After making weight at the UFC Fight Night 32: "Henderson vs. Belfort" weigh ins, Henderson spoke with Fox Sports to talk about the bout with Belfort. While a lot of the focus heading into the fight has been on Belfort's place in the UFC's middleweight division, a major Henderson storyline has gone largely unnoticed.
The fight on Saturday night is the last on Henderson's current UFC contract, making it a "must-win" situation for the American. While it's unlikely that the promotion will let Henderson walk despite entering the bout on a two-fight losing streak, it's probable that a loss to Belfort will negatively affect his position when negotiating a new contract.
To his credit, Henderson plans to keep fighting for at least another two years. At 43 years old, his next contract will likely be the final one of his storied mixed martial arts (MMA) career.
