The eighteenth season of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) comes to a close tonight (Nov. 30, 2013) at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The historic season marked the first time that the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) had a cast that included women.
In fact, those female fighters turned out to be some of the best in the sport today. They also knew that because this was the first time women were involved, they would be held to a higher standard. That's why the female fighters were professionals throughout the season.
The same cannot be said about their male counterparts. Two of the top prospects failed to make weight because of poor dieting, and the rest of the field just wasn't really all that talented. It's why the two male finalists are the only two men from this season that are being given a shot at a UFC career.
Chris Holdsworth was Miesha Tate's second male pick and looked to be one of the early favorites to win the show. He's a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt and impressed everyone by winning both of his fights by submission in the first round.
Davey Grant was Ronda Rousey's second male pick and was the only one who really showed professionalism throughout the season. His road to the final was a bit controversial as Anthony Gutierrez failed to make weight in the semi-finals, a first in the show's history.
With the bantamweight division brimming with talent, these men may very well be fighting for their jobs.
