Newly signed featherweight Tatsuya Kawajiri didn't have to wait long before getting an opponent for his Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) debut.
"Crusher" will be squaring off with Hacran Dias at UFC Fight Night 34: Ellenberger vs. Saffiedine in Singapore on Jan. 4, 2014 at the Marina Bay Sands. The news was first reported on Sunday night (Nov. 3, 2013) by Fight Sport Asia who confirmed the bout with sources inside Kawajiri's camp.
Kawajiri is a legend of sorts in Japanese Mixed Martial Arts (JMMA) circles as one of the top fighters to ever compete in Japan. He's currently on a five-fight winning streak that includes wins over Joachim Hansen at Dream 17 and Michihiro Omigawa at Dream 18. The Omigawa fight was his last, as Kawajiri has not competed in combat sports in 2013.
Dias is currently 1-1 in the promotion with a win over Yuri Alcantara and a decision loss to Nik Lentz. Dias is a Nova Uniao product and considered one of the top fighters from the legendary Brazilian camp.
This is the second bout announce for the UFC's first card in Singapore. The main event will pit Jake Ellenberger against Tarec Saffiedine.
