Tonight (Nov. 2, 2013) at the Long Beach Arena in Long Beach, California, Eddie Alvarez defeated Michael Chandler in the main event of Bellator 106 to capture the Bellator Lightweight title. It was a rematch from their Bellator 58 bout where Chandler defeated Alvarez by rear naked choke to win the belt.
The rematch proved to be as memorable as their first encounter, with both men standing in the pocket and trading punches. Alvarez got the better of most exchanges, battering Chandler's left eye until it was swollen shut. But that didn't deter Chandler from pushing the pace and making it a fight.
When the final bell sounded, it was Alvarez who stood victorious. The judges score cards were read and Alvarez took home a split decision win. Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney was pretty disappointed as he shook his head at the idea of putting the belt around Alvarez's waist.
MMA Mania's own C.J. Tuttle was in attendance and was able to secure the official scorecard for the bout.
