Not gonna lie Maniacs ... I didn't see this one coming.
Sure, popular Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Welterweight Champion Georges St-Pierre was a virtual lock for the final round of voting, beating out middleweight titleholder Chris Weidman and 170-pound nemesis Johny Hendricks, as well as lightweight kingpin Anthony Pettis, because the contest is decided by way of fan vote.
But Alexander Gustafsson?
I was confident "The Mauler" -- who cruised past Strikeforce import Daniel Cormier in the opening round -- would be upended by Miesha Tate in the second stanza, if for no other reason than mixed martial arts (MMA) is a male-dominated sport and "Cupcake" look great without her wrapper.
Wrong.
Perhaps fans want to see Gustafsson where he belongs, sharing the spotlight with UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones (again), who has already secured a spot on the cover of the new EA Sports UFC video game (see the pic here). How else do you explain his upset over Chael Sonnen?
Then again, by his own admission, "The American Gangster" is a tomato can at 205 pounds.
Much to the chagrin of stateside fight fans, the final round will come down to a Canadian versus a Swede (vote here), and Gustafsson can complete his Cinderella story with a monster upset over "GSP," assuming the welterweight champ doesn't squeak by with a razor-thin decision.
